Trek is a 2023 Hyundai Staria Load Premium converted into a Campervan. Yes Trek has a Star Trek theme, how could we not. Trek has been inspected and has a compliance plate approving the conversion to a Campervan and is registered in Qld as a Campervan. Trek was the first 2023 Staria in Qld to be registered as a Campervan. (Leading the way ) Everything is installed and meets the new solar and battery regulation.
Converting the space into a livable, useable, comfortable space was challenging due to the space available. A wee bit smaller than what we were used to in a caravan. We are extremely pleased with the way the van turned out. A lot of creative use of space and ideas, every nook and cranny has been used. Unfortunately it is not like the Tardis where it is bigger on the inside.
As Purchased
We had to keep any additional height to a minimum to get the van into the parking area we have, 2.2m maximum. Bonus to its size is we can still park undercover in a lot of shopping centres, and fits in a standard carpark.
We choose not to put a pop top on the van opting for roof bars that hold solar panels and awnings.
This means we can’t stand up fully in the van, which is the case with most vans this size. By design we are able to access the inside areas from each door, 2 sliding doors and lift up rear door. Cooking is mostly done outside. We can, in cold or wet weather sit very comfortably in the front seats with walkthrough access to the back. Unfortunately they don’t make swivel seats for the Staria (yet).
CampBoss 180 degree awning
Trek is gasless and fully equipped with all the mod cons. We really don’t miss out on anything we had in the caravan, everything is just smaller and outside space is used more. Hey we get into the great outdoors and nature which is why we love travelling. We think what we have managed to archived is nothing short of remarkable.
The van is well setup for off grid camping, we have been thrilled with how we have gone with power and the ability to recharge the battery.

We are fully self sufficient with a portable toilet, plenty of storage. Pull out rear kitchen with several drawers at the rear. Drawers and bench inside. All cupboards were made out of light weight ply. It was carefully designed to keep weight to a minimum. The van is insulated and covered in areas with light weight material not timber we so often see.
The bed goes east/west this creates a bit more space inside the van. Double width but a bit shorter in length. We have a pull out table, place for chairs, everything in its place and a place for everything . And lot more other bits and pieces to make this an awesome little camper that has everything we need.
Cosy interior
Fuel economy of the Staria as standard is 7L/100km’s. On road trips on the hwy we have got below that at 6.4L/100km (driving @ 95km/hr) so very happy with its fuel efficiency. I won’t give you all the specs on the van you can google that info. Trek is our daily vehicle, it is comfortable and easy to drive.
Overall we are very happy with how it turned out, it took a lot of creativity and careful considerations working with a small space. It’s a testament of what can still achieved in a small van.
